What To Expect At Your Minneapolis In-Home Shutter Consultation

March 26, 2019

As you begin the window treatment buying process, some companies, like Sunburst, start out with an in-home consultation. By taking samples to your home, we can show you how different shutters, blinds, and shades would match up to your windows. You’ll find how easy it is to discover the perfect treatments when you aren’t in the artificial surroundings of a showroom.

But what exactly happens during an in-home consultation? And how can bringing samples to your home help you better choose the perfect window treatment? Sunburst prides itself on these in-home consultations, and here’s what you will experience at your visit.

Stepping Through A Typical In-Home Shutters Consultation

Start by scheduling an appointment by contacting your local representative. If you already have a shutter or window treatment in mind, like our Polywood® plantation shutter, then we will make a special note to show you some options available for your preferred product. We will also bring other options, so you can know that your room matches your ideal.

When we arrive, we’ll sit down and discuss what you want in a window treatment. We’ll spefically ask about your lighting, privacy, and energy efficiency needs, and we’ll pay special attention to hard-to-reach or specialty-shaped windows. Your consultant will also ask about how the room is used and what ambiance you are looking to attain. The final target is to imagine what your decor will ultimately look like with the coverings installed.

We might show you many different products until we discover the perfect window treatment for your needs. Most clients need to look at a few different ideas, like comparing Polywood with our real-wood Ovation® shutters or choosing the best stain to match the walls. We’ll also show you all the options available for the shutter, shade, or blind, like available colors, louver sizes, or hidden tilt-rods.

Once you make your pick, we’ll take percise measurements of your windows. We usually measure the windows throughout the house—even if you only need to fit treatments for a portion of the house. We get multiple measurements because most of our customers want to order future shutters or blinds with just a phone call. Before we leave, we will walk you through a detailed, written quote, so there are no surprises on your invoice.

Signs Of A Bad In-Home Shutter Consultation

While we are sure that Sunburst will carry out compentent in-home consultation, there are some red flags you should never witness from any window treatment salesperson. After all, the quality of your consultation experience reflects the quality of the window treatments.

Above all else, your rep should be careful and professional. He or she should come to your house on time, ready to present, and offer to cover their shoes with shoe booties. Your representative should always bring product and company pamphlets and pricing information.

When it comes to price, you should be given a complete written quote. Don’t accept a guesstimate, scribbled on a product brochure or the back of a business card. And don’t take pricing estimates without window measurement. You want to know how much the final bill will cost you. If you haven’t already, check references and online reviews to feel confident in your order.
